MARKETING AWARD WINNER
In the world of radio every now and again you get the privilege of being able to make peoples dreams come true. That is exactly what happened with the Bauer Media project I ran at Key103 which created Manchester's girl band The Piccadillys. The concept was simple, audition local girls aged over 16, based on voice and dancing ability, put them together and get them to perform on the bill of the multi-artist Christmas Live show at the Manchester Arena.
Following the auditions and public vote, 'The Piccadillys' were formed. The girls went through a training process to move them for four individual singers to a group. They received dance lessons, singing lessons, media training, a stylist, photoshoot and personal training sessions. The girls, Belle, Emily, Georgia and January recorded their single 'Music Everywhere' with producer Mike Stock, of Stock, Aitken and Waterman fame, prepped a video and the single was released, breaking into the iTunes chart.
The girls rehearsed and trained to build up to their big performance at the Manchester Arena in front of 18,000 people. They switched on Christmas Lights around the region including the Trafford Centre and Manchester City Centre, they performed at halftime at the DW stadium all to ensure that they were ready for the big one. The girls performed alongside Olly Murs, The Script and Nicole Scherzinger, to name a few, and the campaign went on to win the GOLD Award at the Commercial Radio Awards that year.
